The shops and workshops of Arolithos!

If you ever come to Traditional Cretan Village – Arolithos don’t hesitate to take a walk in our village and visit the shops and workshops! Start from our grocery store named “Diktamo”, situated immediately after entering the village on the right. There you can taste and buy wine, ouzo, raki, Cretan bread, vanilla, traditional sweets, cretan herbs and also natural cosmetics made mainly from olive oil 😉

Continue your walk you to the bridge and take a look at the traditional oven where pure, fresh and with local ingredients bread is kneaded! It is served hot – hot in our tavern! Yum 😉 Tha baker of the village makes the chortopitakia, cheese and mizithropitakia, cretan traditional pies. If you want you can take part in such activities and ferment your own bread!

Further down on your right you will meet the store with the traditional cretan weavings! It is the largest store of our village, where you can see the cretan looms, the traditional weaving, embroidery and knitted that cretan housewives used to decorate their homes with 🙂 The cretan weavings are well known around the world because of the original thread, the sheep wool yarn and the original colors that give beauty and authenticity of the fabrics! One of the best souvenirs from Crete 😉

Continuing your walk down the alley you will find on your right the mosaic workshop! You can see the ancient art of mosaic and how it has evolved so far, and you can buy decorative items such as mirrors, tables, planters and more! Alongside many useful, everyday objects, candlesticks, picture frames, have been transformed by the aesthetic intervention of Niki who works with passion on her art 🙂

After the walk, we suggest you visit the Museum of Agricultural History and Local Art and later drink a coffee or try cretan raki with traditional snacks under the shade of trees in our traditional café or in our cafeteria with incredible views to Heraklion and Wifi Access 😉

Thanks! Hope to see you all 🙂
